Old Man’s Journey. What are the benefits of the game?

At the moment, there are plenty of games that appeal for all sorts of reasons. As far as this development is concerned, it’s worth highlighting the quality of the artwork and the warm visuals. The splash screen already entices, as the picture is quite colorful and there is a simple house on a slope near the water, and behind it the sun is slowly sinking below the horizon and the sunset is coming against the rocks. It really is mesmerising.

And it’s also worth looking at the reviews from the players. Many are simply delighted with the development. There are probably not too many games out there that get such positive and warm reviews.  And after studying it there were only 2 complaints, namely the short duration of the gameplay, and inaccessibility on the iPad, but the latter error will be solved in a very short time.

What’s the gist of the game?

In brief and without spoilers, you have to start with the house on the slope itself. An old man lives there, who at one point decides that he wants to go to the places where he was in his youth to get nostalgic and look at the modern world.

Graphic design and style

Even considering the fact that this indie game is done as a drawing, everything here is well designed. That is, the artist has done a good job on the effect that creates an oil painting in front of the player. And, based on the tone of the narrative, the tones can change from dark to light and so on.

As for the animation, it’s clumsy here, seemingly only 3 to 10 frames per second. But that’s even a plus for the atmosphere.

On the storyline will sometimes show separate pictures, which are worked out qualitatively more than the game itself. These are animations that carry a lot of useful information, so it’s better not to just watch, but get into everything that happens.

Old Man's Journey puzzle

What do I need to know about the gameplay?

It’s actually an extremely simple puzzle game. The player’s main task is to guide the old man through all the places he’s been in the past. And you have to reconstruct everything as it is remembered by the protagonist. On the way there will also be difficulties, for example, you will need to remind the old man how to get around this or that obstacle. You’ll need a bit of wit.

Music

Even this was done responsibly, as the musical instruments were used. You can hear brass, percussion, mechanical and sometimes even reed instruments. And it’s very difficult to say for sure where what’s playing, but it’s safe to say that the music really hooks.

The advantages of playing:

  1. the creative approach to game creation and storytelling.
  2. A complete piece of work that doesn’t fall apart.
  3. Aftertaste.  There’s a little residue, an emotional trail that may not go away for days.
